Photographer's Note
May 2018: after the ferry brought us from IJmuiden, the Netherlands, to Newcastle upon Tyne, north England, we drove further north to Scotland, our first stop was Falkirk where this spectacular boat lift has been built.
From WEB:
The Falkirk Wheel rotating boat lift in Scotland connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal and is named after the nearby town Falkirk, Scotland. Opened in 2002, the wheel reconnected the two canals for the first time since the 1930s as part of the Millennium Link project. The plan was led by British Waterways and planners decided early on to create a dramatic 21st-century landmark structure to reconnect the canals, instead of simply recreating the historic lock flight.

Hi Viviane,i never seen nothing like that,i thought to a broken bridge like the bridge of Genova, but it's different as i can read in your note. A great surprise from your first stop there, and the quality of pic and perspective is excellent despite the difficult light of this cloudy day. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello dear Viviane,
How nice that you are posting a travelogue and how wonderful that you start with a fine photograph of the Falkirk Wheel!
Funnily enough, I was walking here just ten days ago and I realised once again just how difficult it is to get a good photograph of this remarkable structure. But you have managed wonderfully well in this shot in which the grey painted steel and the grey concrete of the structure stand out remarkably well against a beautiful blue sky with its fluffy white clouds.
I love your bold composition, the lovely soft light, rich colours and amazing detail and sharpness. And a very interesting and informative note too.
Wonderful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Viviane,
Fantastic modern lift for crossing the river and canal, picture was taken from a fair distant point to have as much possible of the place.
Replacing the old-styled canal locks with superior engineering.
Excellent outcome, well placed within the frame.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Viviane,
I was hoping that you would post some photographs of this amazing wheel!
We have been promising ourselves a visit just for the purpose of photographing the wheel but, the trip keeps getting put on the back burner!
It's an amazing structure!
The canal looks like a thread passing through the eyes of huge, concrete needles!
What a brilliant photograph, clearly showing the two canals and how the wheel connects them!
Big hugs,
Bev :-)

Hi Viviane,
Great view of this impressive monument of transportation technoly. Truely a one of a kind method to lift boats. And good to see there is one boat on the upper level. No wonder there's several pictures of this installation in TE. But this seems to be the first one from this angle.
