Photographer's Note
A closer view of Cookworthy Knapp, this time in black and white with pigeons heading home to roost.
Again I have included a brief extract from a local artist`s web page.
Coming Home or Cookworthy Knapp.
This small copse of trees can found on the A30 just before the Devon/Cornwall border near Lifton. For me it has always meant 'Coming Home'. As I was growing up it was 30 minutes from home, now I regularly run past the copse on one of my early morning jogs near the village of LIfton. It is such an iconic view for so many people, locals and holiday makers alike. The copse is known by many different names by people living in and visiting the area. 'Cornwall Beyond, Grandma's Trees, Nearly Home' and The Unicorns Wood are a few I've heard of recently .
http://www.katystonemanart.co.uk/
However it seems that there may be a more gruesome reason as to why this little copse has remained undisturbed, local legend has it that this was once the site of a quarry that was used to dispose of the bodies of the victims of The Plague during Medieval Times and is actually a plague pit.

Hello Les,
A landscape composition with a sense of drama. All the elements are there, the sunburst through the clouds, the well placed copse of trees, the flocking birds. Excellent presentation in black and white heightens the mood further.

Hello Les,
the monochrome makes this lovely rural scenery even more interesting, adding to it a mood that seems both poetic and timeless. I like the sense of depth and the soft grey tones, the effect of the diagonal rays across the frame, the contrast between the group of trees standing straight and the flock of pigeons flying by. A wonderful scene, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
Ourania

Hello Leslie,
Is this a site for the Time Team?
I know they have not been digging since the death of Mick Aston but Village Dig could be an option! It would be great to find out the truth about the rumour!
This is a fine composition, with emphasis on the sky, where the drama begins. The circling birds and the grazing sheep add to the sense of place as well as mood.
B&W works well, as does the grainy textures.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello, epic light rays streaming down from the moody sky. Perfect as a black and white image. This is one of the best parts of landscape photography, getting to witness these moments.
Beautiful,

Hi Les,
The trees and the light in black and white make this an awesome image, but those birds increase the drama and life a million percent. There is something so brilliant about a flock of birds in mid flight, especially in a scene like this. It's almost as if the light has woken them from slumber. Vy nicely done.
Cheers

Hello Leslie
Another superb photograph full of atmosphere that is enhanced by the choice of monochrome and the excellent processing. The light through the clouds is very dramatic and the group of birds is a very attractive feature. The main subject, the cluster of trees is positioned perfectly in the frame. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

Hello Les,
An attractive composition in horizontal layers with the many diagonal lines of the sunbeams cutting through it.
For that flock of pigeons the copse should be a welcome rest and sleeping place in this landscape.
A highly dramatic looking picture.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Leslie,
What an amazing atmosphere which you've captured here ! The light of the sunbeams streaming down through the dark clouds really create a magical ambiance. I like the symmetry in the cluster of trees. They are strongly placed in your composition and give a good focal point. The black and white enhances the sense of drama, and the grain gives the shot great character. The birds wheeling around in the sky add to this eerie almost Hitchcockesque atmosphere. Well composed and well timed.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi Leslie
A striking shot very well presented in this b&w composition. The fabulous lighting creates different shades of gray. The flat landscape with the cluster of trees well placed in the frame makes the composition almost minimalistic - less is more. Excellent:) TFS.
Have a nice WE.
Greetings, Erling.

Hi Leslie. i wonder if this dark birds are the restless souls of the victims of the plague who await some acknowledgment of their fate. Great use of light to create this magical scene. Nicely balanced composition in which little things matter. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Les,
This is a rather extraordinary photo and you have obviously spent some time on PP to reach this stunning effect of the sunlight streaming through the dark clouds. The little "knapp" has quite some personality, which I don't often find in a group of trees, and the swarm of birds also play an important role for this composition.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Leslie
Superb view of the country, well framed with the path leading to the small forest. Of course, the large cloudy sky wit the diagonal rays of light is a bonus, enhanced by the lying bird flock.
A B&W master piece for sure

Hello Leslie, I think that the b/w has emphasised the rays from the sun perfectly.
I particularly like the proportions, with a vast sky compared to the narrow band of land.Nearly a quarter to three quarters? Or possibly a third to two thirds!
This would be a good subject for a painting.
Regards Jean.

Hi Leslie,
Excellent composition, superb sunlight rays. Monochrome captures the mood of this scene much more than color could. You have created a really strong composition with great light, excellently framed in landscape format.
Very well done.

Dear Les
I love your B&Ws and this is no exception. The light pouring its rays from the sky is really magical and I like the placement of the little copse of scary looking trees to the right of the image. Wonderful details and the monochrome adds to the terrific textures aswell as the sense of desolation and spookiness that this place often evokes.
Love to you and G

An excellent photo, I really like it. The light rays are well-captured and the birds add life. I think I might like it more if a little more of the dark clouds were cropped out.
