Hello Leslie,
There are places that receive several thousand visitors each day. I am glad this is not (yet) one of them. No people are needed in a photo like this, The warm evening light and the details of the church and its surroundings are enough to make me interested. All important features are very nicely seen against the beautiful sky, including the large bird.

HI Leslie,
A beautifully captured shot, taken from a great POV to make the most of the evening sunlight. Lovely light and shade showing great detail in the church. Lone bench to rest and take in the surrounding landscape.
One bird of prey on the wind. Interesting door in the wall beneath the church presumably to the crypt makes me wonder what lies behind.

This is a great shot of this old church. The inclusion of the bird in flight adds a nice point of interest for the scene. The low angle lighting works great providing a spotlight effect on the building and foreground grasses. The upward view shows the height of the building emphasizing it's importance in the scene.

Hello Les,

What a fascinating and informative note you have written! And, ever the sleuth, I had to do a bit of digging myself and found this website and read about how St. Michael threw the Devil down off the tor and subsequently lobbed a huge boulder at him, deterring him from ever returning again. Good lad. Have you seen the big boulder which apparently lies somewhere around here? There's a picture of it linked to that webpage.

This picture is one of many these days which seems to have had its quality and sharpness quite severely degraded by the "shrinking" to 790 pixels wide which seems now to be the norm on TE. But, when viewed at its native size of 1400 pixels in width, this photograph is stunning, not least because of the glorious low-angled sunlight which bathes not only the church but also the rough grassland beside and beneath it.

The light and colours are delightful, your composition excellent, your exposure bang-on and the details and sharpness exquisite.

Howdy Leslie,

Attractive late daylight scene in warm lighting with shadows of the gothic St. Michael de Rupe. The design looks more fortress like than church, but then many were refuges during the medieval age.
Obviously well constructed to still be standing after the centuries, and an ideal spot.
