Photographer's Note
The MG Car Company got its name from "Morris Garages", a dealer of Morris cars in Oxford which began producing its own customised versions to the designs of Cecil Kimber, who had joined the Morris Car Company as its sales manager in 1921. He was promoted to general manager in 1922, a position he held until 1941 when he fell out with William Morris (Lord Nuffield) over procuring wartime work. Kimber died in 1945 in a railway accident.
MG produced sporting versions of Morris cars in the late 1920s and in the 1930s started making the MG "Midget" series which were popular sporty two-seater motorcars and which continued in production after World War II. Eventually merging with the British Motor Corporation and then to the strike-ridden and turbulent British Leyland, the marque then passed to the MG Rover group in May 2000, when BMW "broke up" the Rover Group. This arrangement saw the return of MG badges on sportier Rover-based cars, and a revised MG F model, known as the MG TF, launched in 2002. However, all production ceased in April 2005 when MG Rover went into administration.
This is a 1937 MG VA drophead coupι by"Tickford" (coachbuilders), resplendent in its shiny black coachwork and gleaming chrome, taken last year at the Biggar Vintage and Veteran Car Rally.

gotta love all that shiny chrome, especially when mixed with the contrasting blacks.
Even just looking at this car i feel the need to wash my hands incase I get finger prints on her :)

Hello John
Shiny or what?
I was dazzled by this picture.To me a car is a car as long as it gets me from A to B, but I know there are males out there wishing they were the owners!What caught my eye was the 999. We have a friend ( retired from the Police Force) who is the proud owner of an M.G.He works out all the routes etc and bores me to tears when we have a minute to minute account of the day!!Not so for Les I might add!

Hello John - There is some serious chrome work on this beauty and the coach work is polished to a high gloss. Somebody loves this car and obviously lavishes much attention on her. I was just thinking when I saw this photo, "Could a photo be any more Giovanni-esque than this?" Probably not. What a wonderful, sleek, elegant machine and the way you have photographed it is superb. I couldn't achieve a result like this, alot of love has gone into it, highlighting that gleaming chrome and the sleekness of the majestic old MG. A class act through and through, congratulations.

Hi John
they do not make them like this any more. Always loved MG's and as a kid always wanted one when I grew up! Never did and sadly the MG is no longer as iconic as it was when this beauty graced the tarmac. Nice crop and superbly detailed. Love the sparkle of the chrome, but would hate cleaning it! It is a labour of love. Excellent and nostalgic imagery!

Hi John,
Very nice crop of this "made to show off" care! Appart from the fact that I am not a car fancier I would say that this is a great crop, you have filled the frame very well. They do say however that if you have say two objects e.g. tow wheels in the frame and you crop off part of one of them it works better if you crop off some parts of the other.
Is it you reflected on the left!?

Hello John,
Like Aleks I am not terribly interested in cars, but it would be impossible not to be impressed and fascinated by the shining elegance of this front. The tight cropping forces us to carefully watch all he strange and beautiful details. I am not sure that every detail was intended to be just functional, and nothing else, but their combined effect speaks loud and clear: "Look at me, I'm smarter than you".

You have worked wonders with all your knobs and whistles, bells and flutes and come up with a real gem.

A real shiny beauty here, John - I love the clouds reflected in the wheel base and the hood, as well as the amazing shine of the headlamps and horns, Nice close angle - and a bit of your reflection there as well! I understand that today's cars are faster, more efficient, safer, and all that good stuff, and I'm glad for it, but... they sure do lack the style of models like this one! I was reminded of that this week as well, teaching my US History classes on the 1950s and car culture. All those amazing old jalopys and cruisers which would be so far beyond safety codes today...

What a beauty and so closely presented!
The details are smashing (a good Lancashire term)
You have that fine angled composition, so that the car appears to be moving off-screen, giving us sharp, textural details of all its bling.
Len was able to catch a view of the rally and got a few shots which he will post to you shortly. Sadly, I was helping my friend in her shop so missed it!
We have been away for a few days so have a lot of catching up to do.
