Photographer's Note
standing on the west cliff in whitby and looking out over the town and sea, is the statue of Capt James Cook, one of the worlds great explores he was born on the 7th november 1728 and died on the 14th february 1779. Born in Staithes, just up the coast from whitby, he served his navel apprentiship in whitby, going on to discover australia. There is a statue like this one in waimea kauai commerating his first contact with hawaiian islands in january 1778

Beautiful lighting on this interesting statue.
In my opinion, it would look even better with quite a lot of the left side and some of the bottom removed. I wonder what other people think?

You captured a fine moment here with strong rainbow on an interesting scene and landscape. You forgot to crop or clone some things on the side of the frame, but no big deal, that can be corrected easily!

Perfect time for a good picture. Nice lighting on the figure but I also like the lighting on the buildings in the distance with the rainbow acting almost like an exclamation mark.

Adrian, I haven't been paying attention, this is a fine shot of a great fellow, without his discovery my wife and i would certainly not have enjoyed Hawaii a couple years back. Great work.

Great shot of this statue and rainbow. The lighting is outstanding here creating nice contrast with the dark sky. The colors are nice with the angled lighting bringing out rich hues. The vertical format is great allowing us to see the full rainbow while getting a close up view of the statue.

Hello Nels,
Your note informs this lovely sunset. Clearly Captain Cook did find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, about 12,000 km away. The composition, light, resolution and subject are all surpassing.
