Photographer's Note
Eilean Donan Castle, close to the Isle of Skye. Eilean Donan Castle, on the main tourist route to the Isle of Skye, is one of the icons of Scotland and perhaps the most photographed castle in the whole country.
The Castle is majestically placed within a secluded inlet between the mainland and the Isle of Skye, a few short miles from Kyle of Lochalsh and the Skye Bridge.
From the Castle you can walk to Dornie at the mouth of Loch Long, see the Cuillin of Skye in the distance across Loch Alsh or look to the head of Loch Duich towards the dramatic Five Sisters of Kintail.

Hi Stephen,
this is an outstanding shot. The light management but also colours, sharpness and composition are perfect. I hope my shots will be almost as good as yours in the future.

Excellent lighting in this perspective!
Sharpness is accurate and the water is very calm.
There's a warm cast in your capture which secures tranquility!

Hi Stephen!
The first critique I write in the new TE layout is for you.
A WONDERFUL shot of this castle.I like a lot the blue/purple foreground and the light.Excellent composition with the first/last light of the day at the castle and the top of this mountain.Amazing contrast with the dark tones.

Hi Stephen:
Dang, took me a couple minutes to figure out how to critique with the new format. I like this shot. It's tough to get anything different with this castle, but yours is excellent. I love that light on the mountains--is it sunrise or sunset? I'll be here in a couple weeks--can't wait--but I don't think I'll top this. Great job.

The colors are just amazing. The tones of the sea and the warm hues of the mountains in the sunshine create a nice contrast. Both the castle and the hilltops counterbalance one another nicely, leading to a very even composition.

Hello Stephen,
This shot is really fantastic with sunlight exclusively on the most beautifull elements. I like your composition as the water around the castle add to some mysterious atmosphere and give a lot of power to the castle and the bridge. And then, colours and sharpness are incredible, really fantastic!

Claude.

Hi Stephen!
Great to see another wonderful photo from you, and the first in the new format for me. Beautiful work in every respect. The light is gorgeous, with beautiful clarity and sharpness both on the castle, and on the distant mountain. Great work, regards,
Steve

Hi Stephen
you get a really good low light and a black sky, so you have a big contrast. The sea is smooth (long time exposure?)
All the best

Hi Steve,
Good to see you back, we need good landscapers here and now Bob is gone we need you more then ever, so welcome back..!!!
You probably thought "lets make impression on Henk" and that is just what you did. What an absolute great and stunning shot. I could spend words after words on this one, but let me just put a green star to it and show you my respect in creating this shot. The weather gods were with you, just as the light, the whole surrounding, man this is sooooooooooooooooo good.
Scotland...it stands on my list...and after seeing this i move it further upwards.
BEAUTIFUL IMAGE.....really stunning work...wish it was mine...!!!
Take care,
Henk

The new TE layout sucks, but i had to put a comment on this one

Wow, this is indeed a classical Donan Castle scenery, but the evening light playing beautifully accross the mountains, a unique and magical moment on this superb composition very well exposed.
Is it dawn or sunset? Hard to tell, but enspelling nonetheless!

Glad to see you posting again, looks like it's come-back time lately :-)
Love the warm glow on the mountain side, though it's a bit irritating that the color temperature is different than on the castle. But I still like how it reflects on the lake. Bring back fond memories of my trip around scottland a while back.

Eileen Donan Castle is certainly a favorite Scot icon here at TE and I guess that everyone would like to have an image of this place in their respective portfolios. Although, I have to admit that very rare people would have it in such a stunning presentation. The light condition is just to melt away.
Is the water's texture due to wind or long exposure?

A very famous place, and the ideal light for it, with such strong contrasts.
Excellent and eye catching

Hi Stephen,
The range of colors in this shot is wonderful. There is no way to tell for sure if it is a very long exposure, but I assume it is from the water. I also want to assume this shot at sunrise due to the color of light, but I could be wrong. I do know for sure your photograph is one of the best land/seascapes I have seen in a while here on TE. Without the low hanging clouds and partially sunlit mountain and castle, it may have been just another shot of this scene, but those parts and the wonderful clarity and depth of this photo, it stands as one of the most beautiful I have seen.

Reed

Hi Stephen,
You had not posted on TE for a long time, glad to see you back here ! We have seen this castle many and many times on TE, but you caught it perfectly, with a terrible light that gives nice colour to the castle and to the mountains surrounding it. I love the effect on the water in the foreground. It's a shame we can't rad any technical information on picture, hope it will be back soon.
Regards,
Olivier
PS : I fly to Northern Ireland tomorrow and will stay there for about 12 days. Your gallery have inspired me for the choice of places to see, so many thanks to you !

hi stephen,
Truly beautiful , really great mood there and this one shows how light conditions are important in photography. For sure in full afternoon that would have lead to a dull and flat picture, here is pure and majestic.

Hi, Stephen. A fantastic light on the tops and on the castle. The composition is well balanced with interest points on the left and on the right, one in the upper part and one in the middle. The mirror-like surface of the lake creates contrast with the rest of the scene.
Have a nice evening,
Philippe

Hi Steven,
glad to have a high class landscaper back, now that you post all these stunenrs, I realise how much I missed them.
All your latest images are complete stunners, but I chose this one because it might be the one I like best so far. The light is magic, the water and the sky look great due to the 30sec. exposure, the location is amazing. So there is not one thing in here, which isn΄t perfect. Man, I love this image!
Take care

Hi Stephen I think I could spend all day going through your Gallery, but would never get any work done. Nelu is right, you never see to take a bad photo - oe even a mediocre one! I love the effect of the longer exposure on the water (they're such fun aren't they?) and although this would have to be the most photographed photo in Scotland, you've brought something new to it with your management of light and exposure. Great job, TFS, Lisa
