Photographer's Note
Sunset shot over Craig-y-Llyn, locally known as the Rhigos Mountain. This is the highest point of the Glamorgan Plateau which sits above the South Wales Coalfield at the boundary of the limestone and sandstones of the Brecon Beacons.
The lake below is Llyn Fawr formed at the end of the last Ice Age. Man has put the lake into use as a reservoir for the people of the Rhondda Valley in 1911. Raising the water level by 25 feet by means of an embankement.
On deepening the drained lake workmen uncovered two large bronze cauldrons. This was quickly followed by a number of implements including axes, sword, spear and horses harness. These were dated to the early Iron Age 750.600 BC by the National Museum of Wales where the Lyn Fawr Hoard is now on display.
It seems this ridge and it's lake were of significant importance to the people of Glamorgan.
