Invest in Me

Well, I quit my job down at the car wash,
Left my mama a goodbye note,
By sundown I’d left Kingston,
With my guitar under my coat,
I hitchhiked all the way down to Memphis,
Got a room at the YMCA,
For the next three weeks I went huntin’ them nights,
Just lookin’ for a place to play,
Well, I thought my pickin’ would set ’em on fire,
But nobody wanted to hire a guitar man.

Guitar Man – sung by Elvis Presley
(words & music by Hubbard)

There’s been more than one music star who has started out doing this on the street. Every penny in the hat keeps food in the belly and helps that dream along towards reality for that ‘one in a thousand’ musicians. This was a cold Nottingham night but that didn’t prevent this guy playing some great tunes and attracting regular investment in his future. So responsible to stand outside the Halifax (Building Society) – he should have had a sign up – ‘saving for a house’ – but then that’s not the dream – the dream is where not having a house can take you.
