Photographer's Note

In the immortal words of Monty Python “And now for something completely different” ….Well this first shot may not to too different from earlier posts from North Yorkshire Moors Railway, (more detailssee here) but this is just the first photo to set the scene for my next series. It was the annual Wartime Weekend; a journey back in time to the Home Front in 1943. Its purpose is to remember the men and women who gave their lives while working on the railways to keep the trains running through the bombing of WWII. So I dedicate this series to them too. People take part in many different activities and dress in the clothes of the time.
This shot is at Goathland Station (also used in Harry Potter films). For information about Goathland click hereI realise the composition is too busy but that is the point. This is how it would have been then. Note also the taped windows of the signal box. We weren’t blessed with very good weather, so the speed of most of the shots is quite slow for hand-held; many shots have hit the bin.
For reasons of historical accuracy I will turn all the shots in this series to sepia, and include the originals in the WSs. I would be interested in your views on the sepia treatment as well as any other comments you want to make.
