Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
This wonderful old mill was built in 1784 and has been used for producing cotton, spinning and corn milling, during its many years of service.
The power came from the River Ure.
An off-shoot of the river was channelled to the mill to drive a huge water wheel. This stream of water is called the mill race. After turning the water wheel, the water went under the mill and escaped via a large, arched opening, back into the river. (This can be seen in the photograph.)
The mill race is still in evidence, gushing in a channel by the side of the pavement and though it does not turn the wheel any more, it still follows its original route. The mill is now a listed building (meaning it is protected from undesirable development) and is open as a craft shop and tearooms.

Thank you for your interest.
I hope you enjoyed the photograph, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
I`m always in awe of the sheer size of these old industrial buildings, the hard work that not only went into the actual construction but also the labours of its occupants.
An exceptional piece of architecture well recorded with nice clear details.
Best regards Les.

Ciao Beverley,

Il costruttore aveva ben pensato all'importanza dell'acqua all'interno di una costruzione che ospitava sicuaramente molte persone.
Una bella condivisione ed una bella foto.
Saluti

Hi Bev
This is on my doorstep ! And I must have driven past it dozens of times.... Shame on me !
A magnificent edifice, worthy of a picture for sure ! Sad to think its maight past in now a memory, lost in the mere chintz of tearooms and a shop.
At least its still standing, which is more than can be said for so much elsewhere.
You have given me a lovely dynamic scene, of good colour, and sound detail and sharpness. You have given me inspiration too, its now on my wishlist !!
kind regards
Martin

Hello Beverly,
Built on top of the creeck, a big edifice old structure, and the stream of water pouring below - evidence of old industrial era, enfolds a piece of history within.
manage to show it's great details, inspite of low light conditions.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
Ike

Bonjour Beverly,
J'aime beaucoup ce cadrage vertical sur le moulin. Le cours d'eau donne de la profondeur . La photo est trθs nette et on sent la texture dans la pierre.
Bon samedi

Hello Bev,
Although as ever you have produced a competent picture, it doesn't work as well as your other photos of buildings when you have photographed giving a corner view. I was here this summer too and remember feeling frustrated at being restricted to this front on view. This straight up and down doesn't offer much dof although the mill race stops it from feeling entirely two dimensional.

Hello Bev,
I am always fascinated with these old mills and this is a very fine example. I love the way that the water is racing through with that chracteristic brown colour. The detail of the brickwork is excellent and shows the effect of weather with time. Very well done.
Kind Regards, Ann
