Photographer's Note
Business open as usual! The long-closed Angel pub on the corner of Stanhope and Caryl Streets, Liverpool, England.
You can view the place on Google Maps, courtesy of my screen-grab in the Workshop.
I was visiting Liverpool last year with my son who was due to play a gig in the microbrewery next door. (He plays bass clarinet in various pick-up left-field improv groups if anyone's interested). We arrived early, so wandered around the area, known as the Baltic Triangle, for a while. It was pretty down-at-heel, as witness this poor old pub, next to which some wag had placed this somewhat optimistic sign. There was also plenty of evidence of redevelopment and regeneration around - but that's not so photogenic...

Bonjour Will ☺
It must have been closed for a while; there are even plants in the gutters!
we have here a beautiful light and a building with many beautiful details too ...if it were not for these planks that hide us the surely very nice windows

Hello Will, very witty!
A photo opportunity not to be missed.
The plaster decoration above the windows looks in remarkably good condition; perhaps the building can be saved, but maybe no longer as a pub.
Good sharp shot.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Will,
It's nice to hear from you, and this building is basically quite beautiful. Maybe it benefits from the warm light and the sign left there by someone with a sense of humour. I had a look at the area on the Google map. It's clearly not the coziest part of the city, although there is a rather impressive brick building at the corner with Grafton Street. Even then, it might not be an area where I would walk alone late at night.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Will,
You took this photo well before the COVID-situation. However, by uploading it now, you provided a sinister atmosphere for your photo. The well-known slogan, which dates back to the WW2, and which proved to work against the air-force of the Nazis, seems to fail against a microscopic enemy. As a photograph I appreciate the contrast between the rather dull environment against the vivid red sign.
Best Wishes,
Gy

Hi Will
Such building makes for a great photography. Captivating part of the old neighbourhood, an image of a once a proud pub full of wonderful grunge, gritty colours and hues along with subtle lighting. What an emphatic moment for someone's livelihood and shame we are losing such a photogenic building like this. I think you did a great job there photographing it in the area before they disappear and this will make a great historical record shot when we look back in time to come! Great work

Hello Will,
Scouse humour is so sharp, so droll!
I just love this!
It will help to keep people amused even in the lockdown!
This was once a very fine pub, much more interesting than the taproom next door!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi there Will
Good Liverpool light and a good shot of the state we're in. I fully agree that picture-wise this sure beats all the redevelopment and regeneration going on the Baltic Triangle. Maybe you know the Baltic Fleet? Not far from here, that's my favourite pub in Liverpool.

Hello Will,
This is a very nice building but almost a ruin
Create nice depth and perspective too, through you angle chose.
An excellent composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John
