Photographer's Note
Dear friends,
posted here is one of my most recent lowlight/night exposures.
Many people will easily recognize this location. This is Westminster Bridge; captured from the south bank and looking towards Westminster.
I also captured other views including one from the right side of this bridge (from this POV), which I posted on TL.
Exposure settings: Full Manual exposure, F/16.0, Shutter speed 40.7 seconds, ISO 160.
Just for the record the clock tower is NOT Big Ben - that is the name of the great bell inside the tower. The name of this famous Tower is actually St. Stephen's tower.
Thanks for looking :-)

Hello Daniel. Interesting note regarding the name of the tower and bell. The image is excellent and the colours and sharpness top notch. You chose a good point of view to capture the bridge and tower very well. The soft texture of the water add to the interest in the image. Thanks Daniel.

Hi Daniel,
40 seconds! I would have imagined the shot to be totally over-exposed at 40 seconds! Did you use an ND filter? I'm just wondering, since the area looks well lit! But the effect is great!
I've been doing night shots with my old 'n trustworthy R1 as well... Gosh, the time it took to load that shot to memory after 40 seconds... And gosh, the batteries it was eating. Well, you know what I'm talking about I guess! ;-).
Nice one!

Hello,
Great shot with an incredidible technic but working well and giving a lot of softness to the picture. The pov is well found.

Hi Daniel,
Excellent capture at night of this nice tower that as you said it's easy to recognize. I like specially the combination of colours reflected on the calm water of the Thames. Beautiful dark blue in the sky also.
Perfect POV.
Thanks for your useful information.
Very well done!

Hi Daniel
As ever you create the images that make me homesick. Excellent control of the lighting, with the long exposure 'icing' the water. Superb. Any chance of something from Waterloo bridge towards the City?

David

Lovely shot Daniel! The contrast between the blue of the dusk sky and the yellow of the artificial lights is wonderful. I also like the starburst effects around the highlights, and the smoothness of the overall image; beautifully clean.
There are a couple of things I'd alter if it were mine though. Firstly, it feels like there's a slight tilt on the tower; consider rotating it 1.12°CCW. Secondly, the clock face is slightly overexposed; I usually take a second shot for that and merge it in Photoshop afterwards. It doesn't really matter too much about when the other shot was taken as the only thing that really changes on the face is the time; during the evening the lighting on it is always pretty much the same.
Although I miss the dynamic feel of your light trail shots, it's still a great capture :D

Hi Daniel,
Magnificent slow exposure capture of this famous bridge and tower. The golden colors reflecting brilliantly on the river are complimented by the muted blue evening sky.

Hi Daniel,
Another great image from London this one. The starburst on the bridge light is brilliant as is the overall composition leading the eye to Big Ben. I enjoy this but I think for me there are two things that could really make it the best it can be. First, the face of Big Ben has blown out. A better exposure there would really enhance this photo as it is the primary subject. I'd also like to see if you could get some detail in the darker areas under the bridge but that is secondary really. I'll have to have a go at some low light shots in London some day. It looks like a lot of fun.
Cheers!

Hi Daniel,
First let me wish you a beautiful 2008 year, wish you the best artistically and professionnaly. Yes the one you spoted was a dedication to your work, i inspired from what you already post here on TE (your first upload) but i keep on prefering yours.
Another POV that we each share on westminster, as i read your note i learn something about big ben and st stephen tower :)
You include this bridge in the compo and i think this is the best choice ... it was a late blue hour shot that's pethaps why the white of the clock is almost burnt. .. but so little don't worry Daniel
Excellent
