Mind the gap... You might hear this warning all the time when you use the London subway, but the origin of this message comes from a long time ago...

In 1952, a crowded double-decker bus had to leap from one bascule to the other when the bridge began to rise with the bus still on it.

Another interesting fact... In 1977, Tower Bridge was painted red, white and blue to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Before that, it was painted a chocolate brown colour.
