Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
This is another Lancashire textile mill; well, in fact, several textile mills. They are tall, many storied buildings and set against the running water which once provided power.
In this part of the country, the mills were constucted of local stone which gave them a recognisable character.
If you look at the roof on the left, you will notice a series of ridges. This type of roof allowed more light into the factory. It would be slated on each of the north facing ridges and have glass on each of the south facing sides.
None of theses factories is producing textiles now. There is a variety of uses, from furniture production to bespoke kitchens.
Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph. :-)

Hi Beverly
Good choice to use a vertical here. The exposure is spot on and the detail in the buildings is well handled.

Hello Beverley,
A very interesting photo and a very useful note. Good use of vertical format, good composition with the incurve river, good sharpness too.
Best regards,

Hello Bev,
Another interesting post - and explanatory note, on these mills. This shot shows how, in some places, many mills were crowded side by side to make full use of the water power.
Best wishes....Maggie

The vertical format was absolutely the right choice for your composition as it emphasises the height of the mill buildings. I guess they were so tall as space by the river was at a premium. Have you done something different in PP as the image has a different "look"? Sharper somehow, although I can't fault the sharpness of your other work.

Hi Bev,
Another beautiful bit of history captured in a wonderful vertical presentation.
Striking details to the old mill with a lovely pastel blue sky and nice contrasting green all around.
There are many such mills to be found throughout New England.

hello bev,
What a captivating shot with the framing of the buildings and the stream in the centre. This looks a very warm stone like in Yorkshire. I like the vertical format and notes.
Great colour and DOF.
In Northern Ireland, many of the old mills have been very tastefully converted into lofts and apartments.
Have a good weekend.
Thanks for you comments on the Mare and foal.

This is a pretty scene, Beverley, thanks to the curve in the river and the old, worn, character-laden buildings. It might have a bit more punch if the light were less even, with stronger shadows (which in practical terms means, shot when the sun was lower), but at least this way we can see a lot of detail. Regards, Ken.

Hi Beverley!
You composed very well the view and made really a very good work regarding the light and the shadows. I find the details and the PoV very good! What to say about the perspective! Excellent!
Greetings from Greece,

The industrial revolution from the 19th century had some ancient wisdom applied in many areas in life, one example is the use of water-power, like this note about the photo.
A difficult POV, Beverly, to my humble opinion, but you managed a fairly good view in depth and the stream gave sense of motion to the scene.
Good evening,
Ike
