Photographer's Note
As you already might know, the 1st of august is the national day in Switzerland. Fire works all over the country as you might have seen from photographs posted by other members.
I took my kids to what we call (literally translated) a Fire of Joy. That's what I got from that day.

Bonjour Gal,

Joli cadrage

Very nice and powerful shot... I like the dark silhouets of people up against the flames... It gives a very stron expresion...TFS...Ina...

It looks a bit horrible to my eyes but very unique use of the shadows. I know this is just a fireworks though... The only 2 colours in the frame and it produces a perfect image here.

Bonsoir Gal,

I did not know that, and that even though the Swizz have pretty much taken over Ecuador ;o) So are those your kids amongst others? It's a very tender shot, there's something about fire that's almost magical even in photos, I love it.

An intense image with the figures silhouetted against the raging fire. I appreciate the sharpness of the silhouettes against the soft movement/blur of the flames. My own experience of being near an open flame is that of being transfixed. There is something quite magical about dancing flames, though if one gets too close, it can be uncomfortable. I love the idea of a "Fire of Joy" since fire is so often associated with destruction. Of course, it could be argued that out of destruction something new arises, as in the Phoenix of Egyptian mythology rising from the ashes. And, of course, we've seen photos of the burning ghats in India where the end of life is marked by fire burning the remains, sending the spirit on its way. There may be sadness associated with such loss, but there is also the fact of being part of the rhythm of life with its ending and its beginnings eternally unfolding. Fire surely is magical.
