Photographer's Note

On May 10-13, 2007 NATO ships entered the Gφteborg port in preparation for a NATO exercise, The Noble Mariner, in the Baltic Sea. Sweden, who is not a part of NATO and doesn't wish to be according to 46% of the population (22% would vote yes), plays the "enemy" in the biggest military exercise in Sweden since the Second World War. Sweden participated with ships, planes, and a submarine.

The Nato Responce Force (NRF) docked with 43 ships and roughtly 7000 participated, according to the Peace Coalition.

NATO currently has 700 nuclear weapons in Europe and 7600 in the U.S. Their policy allows them to use these nuclear weapons offensively, without first being attacked. Kind of warms the heart doesn't it?

I am actually lying in the grass on what my friends told me was a garbage dump in Gφteborg, Sweden. The nicest I've ever visited. There was a magical dazzle of light that grazed the grassy plateau. In the background is a ship. Reminds me of the submarine.
