Photographer's Note
The Convent of Agustinas de Santa María Magdalena in Alcalá de Henares is also known by the name of Santa María la Mayor or Our Lady of Consolation, it was originally founded in the 16th century as a shelter for women, to fight against prostitution, that she had been attracted to Alcalá by the dense student population. It initially functioned as a Reception House and had the protection of Cardinal Gaspar Quiroga.
Later it changed its location and became a closure of Augustinian nuns between 1668 and 1672, at the initiative of Don Andrés de Villarán. Inside is the image of the Virgen de las Mercedes, who is the patron saint of the city. The carving is a copy made in the year 1938, of the previous Renaissance carving.
The plan of the church is of a Latin cross in a rectangle and is divided by arches into five sections, a large brick vault plastered with mortar, simulating stone ashlar. The arches rest on the outer buttresses and, between these, the small side chapels rise. Its brick façade with stone decorations is of the Encarnación de Madrid type
However, what most attracts attention and gives it its personality is its beautiful dome, with a slender lantern and a sharp capital, which protrudes from the cover.
An important corner of the church, located on one of its sides, is worth mentioning. We refer to the Toril, the old cloister of the Franciscan convent with a large square patio, which, as a result of the confiscations, passed into private hands.
The church is attributed to the architect Fray Lorenzo de San Nicolás and was completed in 1762. Its perspective from Calle de Santa Úrsula is one of the most beautiful Baroque images of the city of Alcalá.
Despite being saved from the confiscation of Mendizábal in the year 1936, it was almost completely destroyed in the Civil War, having remained nothing of it but its skeleton and a Mudejar roof, it was rebuilt during the postwar period.
----------------------------------------------------

It looks as a difficult narrow place to take this view, Luis. I can only assume that is why you had to include the tree on left and in the dark part.
other than that, a good view upon the convent edifice and tower from street level up.
Buenas tardes,
Ike

Hello Luis,
A great photo of this church with perfectly saturated colours as the building and tower are ideally lit. Excellent inclusion of the dark trees also to add both depth and contrast. Well done and composed.

Hello Luis,
The church has a fine architecture and is nicely presented here along with the trees lining the street and filling the foreground. The tower and the nearest tree accentuate the vertical shape of the photo, and the contrasts of dark green and ochre, as well as the light blue sky, make this a very bright and eye-catching photo. Technically it is also excellent, with exceptional clarity and sharpness.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Luis,
Very nice street side scene showing this old church. I have a feeling that red bricks is not so usual building material of religious buildings in Spain. So this one with impressive tower is an interesting exception.

Hello Luis,
The sun illuminates well the facade and the tower of the convent creating a strong contrast with the dark tree you chose as a frame on the left.
Beautiful bright picture with excellent sharpness.
Best regards, Paul

Hola Luis,
We would normally like to see f/g details but, in this case, the shaded hedge makes a very good anchor and contrast with the well lit convent, as we move into the photograph.
The convent is nicely highlighted in the sun, the three sections, adding further depth and three always makes a good number for composition!
The clear blue sky makes a fine backcloth.
Keep safe,
Bev :-)

Hello Luis, a very interesting set of notes.
From your vantage point you were able to include the whole of the spire, and the conifers are a good leading line as well as providing a contrasting colour to the bricks of the buildings.
All in excellent sharpness.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Ola Luis,

Hi Luis
The eye-grabbing edifice draws attention straight away from the thumbnail! A capture dramatised by the jutting steeple showing its majesty with much delicate detail and dimension taken on a bright daylight. Excellent shot, Congrats

Hola Luis,
very creative scene here. I like how you have used the hairy wall on the left side. It frames the architecture nicely and it works somehow unexpected in the middle of the city.
Great result, very well seen and captured,
I hope you are well

Saludos cordiales
