Photographer's Note

During my tour across several cities of the Old Castile, I was a couple of days visiting the city of Len, the capital of this autonomous Spanish Community.
There I could see and enjoy a magnificent architectural heritage, which I will be presenting by means of my photos.
In this one you can see the interior of the impressive Romanesque Basilica of Saint Isidoro, from a point of view at the back of its nave, which was offering me a nice perspective towards the wonderful altarpiece in the high altar.

No tripod.

In WS 1 a sight of the exterior of the Basilica, with one of the doors.

In WS 2 a detail of the elegant vaults of the nave.

Information: The Royal Collegiate Basilica of Saint Isidoro or, simply, Saint Isidoro of Leon, is a Christian temple located in the city of Leon, in Spain. It is one of the architectonic sets of Romanesque style more outstanding of Spain, by its history, architecture, sculpture, and by the Romanesque sumptuary objects that have been able to conserve. It presents the particularity of to have a Royal Pantheon located at feet of the church, with Romanesque paintings and exceptional mural and capitals, everything which causes that is unique piece of the Romanesque world of that epoch. The set was constructed and enhanced during centuries XI and XII.
In its origin it was a monastery dedicated to Saint Pelayo, though it is supposed that previously a Roman temple was settling itself in its foundations. With the movement of the remains of Saint Isidoro, bishop of Seville, to Len, the ownership of the temple changed.
The building of the church preserves some Romanesque vestiges of the first construction of Fernando I and Sancha. The Pantheon and both gates of its southern facade, called Gate of the Lamb and Gate of the Pardon, as well the Northern Gate, are the first manifestations of the Romanesque art in the territories of Leon. With the passage of time, modifications are done, putting additions in Gothic, Renaissance and baroque styles.
It is A Historical Artistic Monument from February 9, 1910.
