Photographer's Note

One of the most popular and atrractive figures created by Gaudi is the Alchemist's salamander. It is situated at the entrance of Parc Guell and is a perfect speciment of Gaudi's multiple talents. The mosaic is so beautiful and original and impressed me very much as I had never seen use of the mosaic technique in something so modern. There are many speciments of this technique throughout the parc but this is the best in my opinion. Some other intersting info about this piece of art is that it is called the Alchemist's aslamander because the salamander, being the animal embodiment of fire, was the symbol of the alchemists. I would also like to tell you that the salamander had "healthier" teeth but in time they dropped! There are some photos from the beginning of the century, where we can see its original shaping which is even more magnificent!
