Photographer's Note

One of the highest buildings in Belgrade (101m) and the highest in downtown Belgrade is called Beogradjanka, built in 1969, by the plans of the architect Branko Pesic. Translation of its name is very hard, it is something like "The Belgrade Lady". I tried to climb up the top of the 23 story building, but the man in the lobby told me that the restaurant which used to be on the top with the panoramic view is not functioning for 13 years. This building however was not damages during the Nato attacks in 1999, probably because hitting it would cause a lot of victims since the building is in the center of the city. Another important feature of the building is the antenna on the top, from which independent TV stations broadcasted during the reign of Milosevic. So, this building was at that era a symbol of freedom speech. Since the fall of Milosevic, there is much relaxed atmoshere and media can report freely.
