The Columbidae family is a bird that includes ordinary pigeons, turtles, swans, and gadgets. Centers of Origin, Diversity and Distribution of the Family were the areas of Southeast Asia and Australia. The Columbidae family includes about 42 genera and 310 modern species from all continents except Antarctica.
It is believed that pigeons were indoctrinated more than 3000 years before the new era. Most likely they were indoctrinated by the Egyptians and the Sumeri. These peoples worshiped the pigeons as a holy bird and messengers of gods. From ancient Egypt, the cultivation of domestic pigeons spread to other civilizations.
Pigeons are probably the most represented birds in the world. Pigeons are strong birds with short necks, and short slender beaks that have fleshy wives in some species. They primarily feed on seeds, fruits and vegetable oil.
Pigeons build relatively weak nest, often using wires and other materials, which can be laid on trees, under the roof, or on the ground, depending on the species. They lay one or two eggs at the same time, and both parents take care of the young. Unlike most birds, both sexes produce "dental milk" for feeding young ones.
