Photographer's Note

This was taken during a Multi-National, three-phase exercise called "Balkin Hawk IV"; it was done to increase the capabilites of Soldiers to react to civil distrubances throughout the province of Kosovo/Kosova. The exercise emphasized deployment at short notice, through air movements of insertion and extraction of KFOR troops in order to detour riot activities and civil unrest. What I found interesting, was that there were "Danger Mines" signs all around, and yet these children laid like dominoes against the barbed-wire fences watching; another thing which I had pondered was how it must be very different, so to speak, growing up and being a spectator to these types of military exercises; what thoughts must go through these childrens minds about what is going on about their homeland.

SideNote: In the WS I have post two more photos; one of the riot control march and another of more observing children.
