Photographer's Note
This is only the second shot from the Patriarchate of Pec on Trekearth. Shown here is the belltower and some old Byzantine ruins.
It is located in Ruguva Canyon a few km west of Pec Town, where the road in north west Kosovo heads out of Kosovo & into Montenegro. The divisions of the 1990's civil war in Yugoslavia still run deep, and there have been several attempts by Albanians to burn down this church, located in an area that has historically always been Serbian. Consequently there is now a walled military post topped with barbed wire right next door and you need to approach the caretaker for a key to let the nuns admit you to the grounds of the church. Incidentally this is the first upload of this Unesco listed world heritage church to Trek earth. It's known as the Patriarchate of Pec. More information here.

The Ottomans invaded Kosovo in the late 14th century. Here is a map showing Kosovo before the invasion:

Hello Chris,
This seems like an interesting place to visit. The bell tower is attractive and the Byzantine ruins could be worth a close watch. The surrounding scenery also looks nice. The photo is well saturated and it was a good idea to include the gardener for life and additional colours.

Gert

Chris, this is a rare picture posted on Te. Some low walls form the ruins remaining nowadays. The splendid bell tower is still standing. That site has both a historical and archeological interest. It is surrounded by a thick forest. Superb colors, perfect sharpness.

Hello Chris,
A great photo of the bell tower and the old ruins in the foreground, both lit by a very attractive sunlight. The green colours of the tree and the hill slope form a wonderful scenery as well.

Hi Chris,
beautiful presentation from this ancient monastery.
The ruins make an interesting introduction while the tower attracts most attention. The guy with the wheelbarrow adds an unexpected element.
Fantastic colors and great level of contrast make it very realistic.
Excellent work,

Hello Chris
A well composed scene with fine saturated colours and excellent composition with the tower perfectly placed in the frame. The man in the red shirt is an important element providing life to the picture.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day.

Hello Chris,
The ruins and the bell tower are beautifully located between green forested hills.
You present the site from a good angle, with very attractive colours and perfect sharpness.
A much lesser visited part of Europe; at least I've never been in Kosovo.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Chris
Lots going there in its heyday, great to look at this church and the ruins with deep history is written all over the structures. This looks cool with good combination of deep blue sky and green. Wonderful capture and informative preface, Congrats.

Hello Chris,
Indeed, there are not many photos from Kosovo on TE, and obviously the place is not on the most touristic routes. Nicely combined the excavation site with the monastery tower and green hill beyond.
wish you a nice weekend,
Ike

a pity that these ruins are being used like an element of revenge. I hope the artistic-historic value would be more important than the religious rivalries.
take care

Hello Chris,
I wonder if material from the Roman ruins were used in the construction of the patriarchate. The lovely green background raises the viewer's spirits. 👍🏻👍🏻
