The ridge of San Marino bears tree peaks, each one with their small fortress. This picture shows the western peak which bears the biggest fortifications, seen from the middle peak.

San Marino is a country contained in Italy. You can get to it by bus from Rimini on the Adriatic coast. It has about 35k inhabitants, splited in about 4 towns/villages. San Marino itself is the biggest city of the country that has the same name.

It was founded by San Marino (Saint Marin) who needed a strategic place to defend his army. If I'm not mistaken, it was never conquered not even by the romans.

Today, it is a big tourist attraction and many workers there are in fact Italians. But since it is an independant country, they have lower taxes than in Italy, and they even have a Formula-1 GP. But they host it in Imola because the county is too small and it is almost only one big mountain.

La crête de Saint Marin est composée de trois pointes, chacune avec sa petite forteress. Cette photographie montre le pic le plus à l'ouest, celui qui porte les plus grosses fortifications des trois, à partir du pic central.

Saint Marin est un pays indépendant contenu dans l'Italie. Il est possible de s'y rendre en autobus à partir de Rimini sur la côte Adriatique. Le pays est peuplé d'environ 35 000 personnes, réparties sur 4 villes/villages. La ville de Saint Marin est la plus grosse ville du pays du pays qui porte le même nom.

Le pays fut fondé par Saint Marin qui cherchait un endroit strategique pour défendre son armée. Si je ne me trompe, la cité ne fut jamais conquise depuis sa fondation, même pas par l'empire romain.

Aujourd'hui, la ville est une attraction touristique importante et plusieurs des travailleurs sont en fait des italiens. Comme il s'agit d'un pays indépendant, ils ont le contrôle de leur administration ce qui fait que les taxes à Saint-Marin sont inférieures aux taxes italiennes. Le pays possède également son Grand Prix de Formule 1, mais celui-ci à lieu à Imola puisque le pays est trop petit et trop accidenté pour le présenter localement.
