Photographer's Note
While not many people necesarilly know that this land of Transylvania really does exist somewhere on the Planet, many, like me, have there a homeland, it is a real region, part of today`s Romania.
Here is a visual glimpse of it from my winter journey back home. This photo depicts the city of Timisoara, part of downtown, the Metropolitan Orthodox Cathedral fronted by the statue of the legendary shewolf breastfeeding the founders of the Roman Empire: Romulus and Remus.
It is a commonly photographed scene but very few have managed to get it trough layers of fog at dusk with a flock of birds in the side and a bone cripping -21 degree Celsius cold.
Even though by some geo-historical standards this city named Timisoara is somehow at the limits or off limits of Transylvania (the incorporated or at times independent province of Banat)I think it does portray very well the perpetual eerie image the mythical land developed already.

An original view, the light, the softness of the cathedral and of course, this nice Remus & Romulus-statue and the wolf in the front and very clear. The pigeons are the fine details and also making this picture.
Nice done, Radu, good shot !

I like the dark silhouette of the Romulus/Remus statue against the hazy pastel background and the cultural and temporal contrasts that follow from this juxtaposition. The inevitable pigeons ad life to an otherwise too cerebral scene. Thanks for sharing.

You've done a great composition here Radu and in such cold weather. It's very original. The light is lovely too. The only thing that bothers me is that the building is slightly leaning to the left. Brilliant work though.

That's great - I like the layering from the mist, but it's the birds that really complete it.
This one really is tilted!

Hola Radu.

Very nice, I like the atmosphere contributed by the foggy silhouette behind the statue. I saw a statue like that in Pisa, Italy, a few weeks ago, but I never realized there was one in Romania!

Wow ... DOF takes a new dimension in this composition ... rather than the normal blurring effect to highlight the main subject, the misty background of the main building in this photo is very effective. Excellent!

Radu,
Firstly I must say you have written an excellent commentary, especially from a non-native English speaker! Secondly, you make beautiful use of light and I swear when I first looked, I thought the building was painted!
Really good work!
PS: the information you gave about Romulus and Remus sparked my interest to read more about them...

Wow! A lovely shot! All the pieces work together - the light, the well-lit but hazy church and the clear but shadowed statue. The birds add the perfect final touch.
Be nice to have the technical data - f-stop, etc.

Wow!! I love the idea of this picture. This is so well composed. And the sharply focussed statue of wolf signifying the mysteries and legends of romania with the cathedral behind the mist in the background, all form a memorable picture.
