This is the Romanian Atheneum, an institution dedicated to arts and sciences, built in the neoclassical style sometimes around 1865 and works were completed in 1897.However its grand opening was ... in 1888 and the works were continuing... It is basically a concert hall, a classical auditorium with great acoustics and some of the most impressive interior paintings depicting scenes from Romanian history and mythology. The works were partially public funded, and the slogan "Give one leu (national currency) for the Atheneu" survived to this day.
Major renovations in 1992 ensured the building endures to this day.Today many couples find it a nice place for bridal photos, and a lot of Facebook "belles" find it irresistible also. That is why a picture with no-one around the columns is an impossibility. While taking this little shot there was a queue forming behind me.. and I could not avoid all the persons there,so you can see a girl and her friend that were using the majestic columns as backdrop. I could photoshop'em out but I'm too lazy.
This is a black and white from the little M50 camera - it has nice mid-tones and exposes like a champ in BW mode.. but I could not resist a little selenium toning in Silver Efex Pro. I have the old freeware version from Google..and I run it as a plugin in the free paint.net software, using a smart plugin called 8bf filter (basically load Photoshop plugins etc and transform your paint.net in a .8bf plugin host).The only real effect all this had was a slight darkening of the skies- using a green filter also helped. I miss my colored filters on top of black and white film..
