Photographer's Note
Azores islands riviera sunset over the only sandy shore in the world bordered by a banana plantation: the most secret sandy beach of the mild subtropics , visible only from the neighboring banana plantation, is a few hundred meters from this quinta and hard to believe, less than 2 km in direct line from the marina of Vila Franca do Campo.
What hardly anyone is aware of: there can be sandy beaches bordered by banana plantations nowhere in the world but in the mild subtropics.
And the most unbelievable of it all: although there are tens of thousands of miles of sandy beaches bordered by coconut trees in the tropics, this shore is the only place in the world with a sandy beach bordered by a banana plantation.
In the Canary Islands banana plantations are found only in rocky shores with pebble beaches, Madeira Island has no beaches, the shores of the “Banana Coast”, around Coffs Harbor, New South Wales, Australia, like South Africa's coast along the Garden Route or like the rest of the Azores coasts, is not enough protected from wind.
All other subtropical shores are not mild enough, either too cold or too hot or both.

Concerning the beaches of Madeira island: Except for the beach you mentioned, Prainha at Ponta Sao Lourenηo (semi-arid like neighboring Porto Santo island) I only know about another sandy beach: Machico, recently built with sand brought from Morocco.

Just a small correction to your note: Madeira has no beaches? There are lots of beaches. Most of them are pebble beaches but there are also a few sandy beaches. Praνnha beach is an example:
