Photographer's Note

For any altitude from sea level all the way to the top of its cliffs, Flores west coast gets more rain than any other coast in the extratropical North Atlantic.
At sea level that means more than three times the 700 mm of precipitation recorded at the Azorean Riviera, two degrees more to the south.

Incredibly, for this millenium, January (mean of 14.5° C) is also at least 3° C warmer than any other coast or any other place at the same latitude in the world, except for other coasts of this island or the neighbor island of Corvo.

Daily values for January 2009 in the island's capital, Santa Cruz, located in the east coast, only a couple km away yet receiving "only" 60% as much rain.

--- added after end of January:
From data of previous link for Santa Cruz das Flores:
- total precipitation for January 2009 was 184 mm, below the mean for January.
- a record low temperature for the last ten years was recorded (6.1°C).
