Hi TE friends

Yesterday, I did a trip between Lisbon and Cascais. Many time saw this lighthouse but we cannot stop close to that one. This time a park a car close to Caxias trainstation and took a walk to made this picture

Gibalta Lighthouse is a lighthouse that is located on the slopes of Gibalta along the coastal road de Caxias, in the town and municipality of Oeiras, a district of Lisbon.


It is a white cylindrical tower, dome and red veins, which are illuminated by a fluorescent light red color, is 21 meters high. The Lighthouse Gibalta, along with the Beacons Esteiro and Mama came to replace the old Lighthouse, originally built between 1978 and 1979 installed on the Alto de Caxias and Porto Covo, armed with a steady red light in May 1914. Were also those fitted with a steady red light.
Only in 1951 the light became rhythmic. However, in 1952 there was a landslide and the consequent destruction of the old structure. The current building was put into operation on 10 February 1954, about 30 m from the old building. In 1981 is automated, leaving, therefore, be fitted with lighthouse keepers. In 1987 the headlights and Esteiro Gibalta now be lit from 1 October to 15 March, from 1997 only to be lit continuously throughout the year.
The Lighthouse Gibalta sets, along with the Beacons Esteiro and Mama, the string of entry of the Bar of the South Port of Lisbon.
