Photographer's Note
The picture is taken from Ponte do Infante, close to the old town of Porto. The light, coming from the left of the image, is something rare in Porto. The reason is, that you need a relatively clear sky in the morning. From what i experienced, this is rarely the case and Porto will be covered in fog and clouds in the morning, even in july, seldom Clearing up before 12 o'clock. But this one day i was lucky (it was the only day out of 10).
The bridge over the Douru river is Ponte Dom Louis and connects Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia on the left. On the top left there is the Mosteiro da Sierra do Pilar, an old monastery, nicely illuminated at night. Around Ponte Dom Louis is also the place where all the Port Wine destilleries are located, and the tourists... A short stay there is more than enough :-) This city offers so much more to see!

very interesting note about the city of Porto. I had no idea about the lighting conditions, I wonder why that happens most mornings with the fog
I'll have to remember that when I visit there in the next couple of years.
as for the photo, its excellent. love this point of view over the river with the expanse of the bridge deck and its reflections.
I wonder what the lighting is like in the evening??

Beautiful reflection of the bridge in the river.
I wasn't aware of the difficult light conditions in Porto, sound quite intrigueing and it would be interesting to see the same scene with mist or fog over it as well.

Hello Franz, thanks for posting such wonderful photos of my hometown! In this case, the Douro river looks like a mirror and the towm seems so quiet. You're right, not very often we have such a clear day mainly along the river and river mouth/seaside. You are now the first one in my favorites' list.

Hi Franz,
Right place at the right time, and a little bit of luck for good measure! :) That really is some pleasing light, the soft golden tones really set a great mood for this shot. Terrific vantage point too, this offers a nice, wide view over the city and you've done a great job seizing the opportunity of clear weather. The reflection on the water is crystal clear, looks like a sheet of glass! Lovely composition, balanced on both ends. Thanks for sharing this moment and view over Porto. Have a good day ahead.

Hi Franz,
I really like this shot. It looked very simple and bland as a thumb. But the full image is just great. I think the reflection in the river and the miniature-like buildings in the foreground are what make the image.
As for your profile overview, I agree with you that honest criticism should replace the "You scratch my back I scratch yours" approach. I give everyone a carte blanche to criticize my images or my comments. I doubt that I myself will make any serious critiques, given that I'm an amateur and all, but I welcome others to provide me with some honest critiques for my pictures. A few good photographers are doing that for me already and I am grateful to them for it.
