Photographer's Note
Song of the Streets
First day in Poland still and on my own now, I got off at the wrong station – Polytechnika instead of Centrum – so I stopped a cop or two and asked them the way to the Palace of Culture and Science and in case I’d got it wrong by a few other names too.
The reaction surprised me – they spoke some English but hadn’t the faintest idea which way to go – “we are new here”. They had just been appointed for a short period from another part of the country. Well, I quite like going wrong in places I don’t know – there is always the opportunity for serendipity – my favourite word. If we are travelling any distance as a family in the UK we often set off not knowing exactly where we are going, where we are going to sleep or camp and frequently by roads that meander off the main routes. We have so many adventures. A bit like Sasa’s lake picture!
I really liked the light here and the cut through into the street beyond – curiously it made me think of an American street scene – or perhaps others can see why too. It really makes me think of the novels of Theodore Sturgeon – a slightly alternative reality – which of course for me this is – it would also be alternative, but more subtly so (but perhaps not subtle in places) to any returning Pole who had been out of the country for a decade or more, say in Russia or somewhere to the east/south east.
I had fun exploring this area before resuming my dusk time, three hour meander to meet Jerzy in the Old Town. I just really liked the colours here. The next few images are from this walk.

Hello Kev,
Really great reflection! The exposure's very good and captured the sign in the right light and colour. A nice crisp little image.
But I'm not so sure of that tiny bit sticking out from the left frame...maybe better if you've cropped it.

Hi Kev,
It's so typical situation with cops in Warsaw. Normally, when You are even asking what is the time, they say: I don't know, I'm new here... ;oD
Nice reflection and POV. Your note is more than interesting.
Best regards. maki

Hello Kev,
Excellent Image, Your intelligent POV captured the reflection right there. And the dark human elements are excellent.

Fantastic title to go with this beautifully designed shot, Kev! You have made this street sing, with the wonderful reflection of the "Kanto" -- such a beautiful balance... I can hear it!
Thanks,

Hello Kev. A really nice image, the reflections are great, so clear and colorful... I also like very much the overall blue tint, especially in the far background. a good street shot... worth being lost for.

Trθs belle photographie avec une lumiθre et une profondeur de champ parfaitement maitrisιes. La photo n'aurait-elle pas ιtι encore plus intrigante en coupant les enseignes lumineuses en haut?

Excelent!
You take every oportunity to make some great shots.
I can agree with you that it's always a great experience to be lost in a big city, because it opens to yourself with its true nature. No guides, no brochures, just you and the city. And when you get to know better the city, you always return to the first experience. Humans are relentness explorers by nature and that's why we spread all over the Earth and we'll inevitebely expand to beyond Earth. I like these kind of images, taken in the twilight because of the deep blue natural surroundings compared to the yellows greens and reds of the neon lights. this is a great framing you did here with great choice to take a reflection of the sign. What is good with your images and notes is that they force me to think and they force me to write.
take care, Aleks

Good POV and a fantastic reflection of the lights - well seen :)
BTW - You talk of serendipity, this might be closer to coincidence.
I was talking to a friend in the pub last night and we drifted into a conversation about a film and TV series (1960's) called 'voyage to the bottom of the sea' - adapted from a book by Theodore Sturgeon. - small world...
From the net.
"Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" was the most successful of the four TV great shows produced by Irwin Allen (the other were Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants). The series were a sequel to a movie with the same title produced by Irwin Allen in 1961, based in a novel by Theodore Sturgeon".

hi kev, just returned from the movie to see a highly appreciated polish love story, very popular, action in warsaw, but warsaw you had not a chance to see - glass high risers, convertible bmws, grdens on the roofs, clean streets - nearly steril; this warsaw i do not know either; it was so "plastic", so artificial, so sci-fi or matrix-like story, worst thing was i knew all the places and kew they are not LIKE THAT in reality;
reality is a subtle beauty which you are showing today,
reality is a joy of seeing, or rather noticing the reflection of the "kantor" word, reality is the thousands of bypassers who can only dream about SEEING a bmw convertible, or even model 3;
man, you feel the place, that is obvious!
tc, j.
ps. "cooking up" a great route for a podlasie workshop :-))

Gold, jewellery, diamonds, real estate... Everything shining nicely in this lovely Warsaw puddle ;)
Colours are important here. This sidewalk really comes alive, with all the melting snow (and golden dreams reflected...)
take care.

This is beautiful. It would also look great (and very Eastern European) in B&W. But the golden glow among the blue is lovely...
One tiny complaint: Like CheukHin I wish that tiny bit of black weren't coming into the left side. But it's still a lovely shot.

So THIS is the famous Kanto shot - I couldn't find it after your last note under "latest", so I drew a blank. This is beautiful, Kev, really fine work: the stunning clarity and position of the reflecting puddle, the nigyt clue against that garish yellow sign. Fantastic shot, makes one feel good (and sad) all over. reminds me a bit of scenes of Hamburg in Wim Wender'S masterpiece "The american Friend"... Oh well.

Kev,
Serendipity, is that the word?... But then in my experience, photography has been all about that....
Beautiful, your lost in action...
Nice light & wonderful Shot.
Thank you for that.

ohhh Kev, i'm loving this series... i keep smiling while reading your notes and thinking to myself "happened the same to me"... i also got lost ;)
But in Warwaw is quite easy to find the "palace of culture".. just look at the sky and follow the skyscrappers ;)

Hi Kev,
Very interesting shot. It is amazing how strong is the reflection of the yellow sign. And that makes the photo so intriguing.
