Photographer's Note
Schindler's List, the 1993 movie based on 'Schindlers Ark' written by Australian Thomas Keneally, is based on a true story. On the front wall of the actual factory in Krakow (now a museum) is a memorial to some of the 1,200 Polish Jewish survivors, who he & his wife saved. Shot through glass, so sorry about the reflections.
The day before the Nazis were due to inspect the factory and deport all remaining Polish Jews to Auschwitz, Schindler got wind of their plan and fired all remaining staff with an envelope containing a substantial amount of severance pay for each employee and an apology letter he'd signed. He asked them not to read the letter until they were safely out of Krakow. He also bribed the SS to return the women and children destined for transport to Auschwitz. He spent all of his money during the war saving Jewish refugees and escapees from the Krakow Ghetto. The movie faithfully covers many of the events of the Holocaust but glosses over the complex character of Schindler, who had many human flaws & faults.

Hello Chris,
It was reported just a few days ago that the secretary Mimi Reinhard who had compiled the list at Schindler's request had passed away at the age of 107. She would have deserved a place in this gallery. Maybe her portrait was somewhere else in the museum.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Chris,
I enjoyed the film and was greatly moved by the story but I still equally enjoyed reading through the Wikipedia link!
These photographs are a great link and warning about what can happen during the atrocities of war. I hate to say, we are being informed of War Crimes happening at the moment! Evil people must be stopped from promoting evil actions!
Have a good w/e,
Bve :-)

Hi Chris,I have been to Krakow but unfortunately I have not visited Schindler's factory museum so this post is very interesting, we all know the story of this man thanks to the famous film, a nice capture of some workers who collaborated in the salvation of many Jews. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hi Chris
Great TE upload, we need a reminder of this story from time to time! Well chosen detail from the museum to photograph and post, never mind the minor reflections.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Chris,
A good and clear photo of the many portraits of people who were saved by Schindler. Especially in the bottom half the reflections can hardly be seen. Well captured.

Hi Chris
A good interesting photo remembering Schindler despite his flawed character. Years since I read the book.

Hello Chris,
Lovely tribute to the efforts of this man to save lives. I still remember the little girl in red walking in a desaturated street, a striking effect.

shlinder was the most famous, but there were many others, including the wife one of the most famous brazilian writers, Aracy, who was working in our consulate in hamburg and gave lots of permissions to jews to escape to brazil, even against our government. they did a movie about here few months ago. she was the angel of hamburg.
