Photographer's Note
I was sitting next to TE member Jerzy as we spotted this farmhouse alone in an open field when we passed in Jerzys car – and we both agreed that some shots of this place was a ‘must’.
No doubt that the farm was not at all representative for farms in general. Not maintained, no windows in the upper floor, even holes in the roof. Still there was a farmer living there with his dog and 2 horses. An interesting place for some photos.
Of farms in Poland
There are over 2 million private farms in Poland bigger then 1 ha, most of them very small and self-sustaining. There is a shortage of equipment and general infrastructure, such as flour mills, etc.
It is a challenge to develop agriculture in such a way that the social and ecological resources of the countryside remain preserved. If Polish agriculture were to develop in the way it did in Western Europe, the number of farmers would be drastically reduced, and the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides would drastically increase.
Such a development would have highly negative consequences for the environment. Most farmers see this agricultural transformation process as a huge threat to their livelihoods and lifestyles, and would prefer to continue working in the traditional way.
But this will not solve the problem in the long run. The solution lies in a third approach.
Environmentally friendly modernisation of agriculture could avoid the disadvantages of Western agriculture and still create sufficient employment.
More and more farmers are making a start on this path, and they set a good example for Polish agriculture as a whole.

nice general view on that place, jack,
interesting that the guy was about to sell his "farm" soon, and look - there is a tractor on the farm, credit? leasing? other form of financing?
an interesting pic,
best wishes, j.

A nice composition Jack with the horse forming a diagonal back to the farm. You didn't have good weather, but the image records the scene as you saw it which is good and actually quite fitting.
Nice work

Nice farm shot, Jack.
I like the angle of shooting with the horse on the lower corner (I am only sorry for his missing foot), and the tractor at the back.
I alos like the almost desaturated colors of the BG, which make this shot quite moody.

A pleasant impression from your trips through rural Poland, Jack. Well worth a stop, and the horse seems all ready to welcome the curious visitors with their cameras. Good work on the contrasts (I sense a reasonably dosed application of the clarify tool) to strengthen the details of this simple farmyard view. Good notes, too. Greetings from Barcelona.
