The BeeKeeper in Bialowieza
During the off season visit of TE photog at work under the Polish workshop organized by Jerzy we meet some vendors outside the bison park in Bialowieza.
As here a local beekeeper in full swing marketing his products.
About BeeKeeping in Poland
Albert Einstein once said that if bees die out, the human race will follow five years later-but not for lack of honey, which most people associate with bees. In fact, honey is only one byproduct of beekeeping, similar to beeswax, propolis and royal jelly. The basic and most important role of bees for man is that they pollinate many varieties of plants in bloom. Without it, these plants would never be able to bear fruit. This is precisely why the actual amount of honey produced is less important than the number of bee colonies, which numbered 2.5 million in Poland as recently as 1985. Now they are down to 1 million.
The origins of Polish apiculture date back to the times when the Polish state was just emerging. Ever since, honey and other products from bees have been widely used in cooking, medicine and many other areas of life. Modern times have changed this situation. Even though honey consumption in Poland has been slightly revived recently, both the overall production of honey and the number of bees kept remain small. Unless this changes, Polish apiculture may be threatened with collapse.

Hi Jack
Good tonal range & contrast, in this superb portrait. I like the warm ochre sepia tones. Well composed, with excellent dof & sharpness. Tfs!

Good close-up portrait of the beekeeper, Jack. The tight framing/cropping works quite well, and it is good to see a bit of his merchandise included in the lower portion of the frame. Looks nice in b&w with a good tonal range. Greetings from Graz (my last full day before returning).

Hi Jack,
Good portrait with a well captured moment. I like the expression in this man's face. Good idea to use the black and white.
I am glad that man like this exists, because beekeeping is not something for me... :o)
Have a good weekend - Paul

Thats a good "character" portrait.; Sharp and with a very good (carnation) skin. I like the contrast betwneen ts charater and the delicate job about Bees and even the battle dress that increase it;

hi jack,
i missed this one somehow,
this has been an interesting "foggy" pp technique applied here, i find it extremely good, makes the beeman unreal somehow,
this is an unusual take from you, as you rarely use b/w in your presentations;
and i like it this way,
bw, j.
