Photographer's Note
The first of a short serie of pictues taken in the rigging of Statsraad Lehmkuhl in 1993: here, the main mast, taken from the fore mast, at mid level (probably from the platform).
At that time - 1993 - I was clearly younger than now (only 31), and considered going aloft as an exciting sport. Bringing a camera was no problem either. I feel a bit differently now: going up isnot a problem, but working aloft is much less fun (probably because I think more of what could happen if I was to be careless).
Besides, I am enjoying nowmuch more smaller ships compared to the big tall ships of my early years in traditional sailing, and the opportunities of climbing the masts are fewer. So you will find much less of that kind of pictures in my last cruises.

Hello Emmanuel,
The huge sail, acting as a translucent screen allow the shadows of the seams and lines to show through. It's a beautiful photo, and one that has survived the ravages of time. Was it a transparent slide or negative film. In any event, it is alluring.

This seems like an unusually long picture on TE. If you don't mind my asking - didn't you have the usual (800x600)hurdle to overcome? Lovely picture btw. The little bit of sun glinting off the water and the miniature human sitting far below add a sense of scale I like.
