Photographer's Note
Went to a cloister a few years back... Not to find redemption (there's no God in the world that will ever accept me, 'non but ourselves can fee our mind') but went there in connection with a research to the origine of gardendesigns... the monks/nons back in the early centuries where actually almost knowing as much about the plants they where using as there is to know about them... That was a fascinating conclusion as nowadays we find out about that in high-tec equipted labartories. I agree that it goes a bit faster now, but considering the time we spend nowadays watching mindnumbing gameshows, i doubt if that's a win-win situation :D....
I'll stop now: 'Weekend Millionairs' is on the tellie...

Do you dream at night
Do you scream at night
Do you smell of fear
Is your conscience clear
Are you caked in sweat
Are your clothes all wet
Do you see the light
Is the end in sight
See the face of Christ
Enter paradise
I doubt it'

Fantastic !

A most meaningful subject, an interesting note, at the same time nostalgic, lyrical and rather disillusioned... unfortunately illustrated by a so-so image. An intriguing result, when one could have expected something more fascinating... ;-)
PS By the way, how did you come to start watching Weekend Millionnaire?

Heyyy Jorrit!
You went to a church!!! Unbelievable!!!
(I am just joking).
I like the pic, it is at the same time dark and serene.
Un abrazo!

One of the photographs that has touche me the most around here. IMHO, the best you have posted to date, although this is all a subjective matter of taste. I won't even bother making a comment on technical aspects. I love everything.

Allright Jorrit all these teddies, puppies, flowers, you writing me poetry, thoughts of paradise (ok lost, but still ;o) - I think I'm in looooove ;oD
This is a great shot and the lines being distorted makes this even more gloomy and it conveys the way your heart beats for Jesus very well...;o)
Indeed good stuff.

Agree with Galeota+Burnham, disagree with dom inik m - on the contrary, I fully accept your picture: very gothic, very spiritual, its expression corresponding with and stressed by the technical insufficiency, lack of light and sharpness. On the other hand I have some difficulties to understand reasoning, sense of your crazy comments, their matching with the picture. Or is it on a contrast basis? Gothics vs sci-fi rococo? Or any other deeply hidden link, poetry unaccessible for my straightforward mind? Interesting anyway, and I am looking forward to your creations after your TV catharsis ;-)

Your images have a rather moody quality to them, Jorrit, quite dark with muted details. In this image, the contrast between the bright windows and dark interior space, no doubt contributes to that effect. Personally, I like it very much, especially with this image that gives us the soaring reaches so favored in Gothic architecture, with bright light piercing the wall between the ribbed columns and arches. What make this image so powerful, at least to my eye is the crucifix at the bottom, only barely discernible. I appreciate the sensibility that would apply this title to the composition. Whether paradise is indeed lost, or merely lost within the rubric of Catholicism is subject for lengthy conversation. But you offer us precisely that question with this powerful image. I'm surprised that not more folks have stopped to share their observations. This is first rate image making and I agree with Gal, it is a favorite.
