Flying over the coast of Zeeland
Another shot taken during the aerial tour over the Western parts of The Netherlands (see also the theme Flying over Holland).
We are in the province of Zeeland and have almost reached the southernmost point of the tour and are about to turn and fly back in the direction of Rotterdam and further back to Lelystad.
In this photo the water at the left hand side of the shot is de Noordzee (North Sea), at the right hand side it's called de Oosterschelde (Eastern Scheldt). The two are divided by de Oosterscheldekering (Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier). The island in the foreground is the artificial island Neeltje Jans, the island in the background is Schouwen-Duiveland.
De Oosterscheldekering is part of the so-called Deltawerken. De Deltawerken were designed after the catastrophe of the North Sea Flood (in Dutch: de Watersnoodramp)in 1953. It has to protect a large part of the Netherlands from flooding.
De Oosterscheldekering is nine kilometers long. It's partly a closed dam, but here you can see the part that has 'doors', that were installed to protect the saltwater marine life in de Oosterschelde. Normally these doors are open. The dam was in 1986 opened by Queen Beatrix.

De deltawerken zijn zeer de moeite waard om van bovenaf gefotografeerd te worden. We moeten in het voorjaar op een mooie zonnige zondag maar de rest van Nederland van bovenaf vastleggen.

Very symbolic of the Netherlands : low lands and water... These aerial views are really impressives. I like the wind power stations on the right, and the nice curve of the land in the background.

Hi Lars. For shooting through an airplane window the clarity is commendable. The blues of the water contrast well against the browns of the land. The sharpness is also great. I need to try more of these. tfs Lars!

Een van de mooiste realisaties in Nederland wat men hier tezien krijgt na de afsluitdijk, het werkeiland Jantje Neels, en de overloop sluizen zijn zeer mooi gefotografeerd, zelfs de stroming is goed tezien. Ik ben er nooit overgevlogen maar dit moet prachtig zijn bij helderweer, goed werk met deze lucht foto Lars!

Difficile d'obtenir une image panoramique aussi ιtendue de Neeltje Jans !
Pas facile de cadrer dans un avion, ηa bouge, ηa vibre, il y a le reflet de la verriθre du cockpit. Mais, l'on se rιgale de la vue et du plaisir de survoler ces grandes ιtendues.

Well composed with a bird's eye view of this interesting coastline. There is great depth in this shot, together with wide angle, and I particularly like the distant view of the headland curving with apparent bright sandy beaches visible. Very well captured...later.

Tak for sidst. Hier ben ik ongeveer geboren, nou ja, iets maar aan het zuiden en mijn opa heeft nog aan de Deltawerken meegebouwd.
Mooie overzichtsfoto. Het water heeft een goede duidelijk kleur.

Prachtige foto van Neeltje Jans en de stormvloedkering. Ik heb het weten bouwen, kwam er regelmatig kijken met mijn boot, ben door de Roompotsluizen gevaren toen de dam nog niet af was maar ze wel al werkten. Heerlijke souveniers.
