Photographer's Note
As you know by now, winter has reached The Netherlands this weekend. I wanted to show you this image, not just because it is quite close to my home, but for the knotted willows that are typical in the Dutch landscape especially by the dikes. Their branches grow so fast and each year, in winter or early spring, have to be pruned or pollarded. These were pollarded last week just before the snow arrived.

The truncated willow frees resemble vegetation from an alien planet! Good sharpness with a pleasant diffused light and soft pastel colours. Tfs!

Hello Elaine,
This somehow makes me think of Van Gogh, even though he would have made this view look different. The strangely shaped trees give the scenery a special character.

That's some snow scene! Stark and very expressive 'butchered' willows - I thought this made quite a pleasing scene and the muted winter tones. Good choice of exposure to blend the image together. Another lovely winter scene from you and tx for explaining

Goedenavond Elaine,
Gelukkig hebben we in Vlaanderen ook nog heel wat van deze knotwilgen.
Ik vind dit altijd mooi dit geeft iets aan de natuur.
Nu bij de sneeuwlaag zijn deze tronken een welgekomen object.
Panoramisch goed geslaagd met het huis tussen the knotwilgen door.
Mooi winter beeld, goed foto werk, bedankt.

Hello Elaine, Such willows are typical also for the Mazovian landscape. And we have the same snow just now. But this house looks typical Dutch. Nice winter composition.

Hello Elaine,
I have always been curious about trees like this when I've seen them in photos. I never understood why they looked like their tops were chopped off. Now, thanks to your note, I know why. :-) It's a lovely winter scene, with the rows of tree, and the house in the background. Take care!
