Sluis a city on the borders of the Netherlands and Belgium
A little bit history of this nice village
Sluis was probably founded around 1260 by the Flemish count Jan I van Namen and originally had the name Lamminsvliet. In 1324 Sluis got its current name. The city owes its existence to the silting up of the Zwin. As a result, the direct connection of the important trading city of Bruges with the sea was blocked and Sluis became the most important port of Brugge. In 1290 the village already received city rights and due to its strategic location, the city became a fortified town in 1382. In 1340 the Battle of Sluis had already taken place in the mouth of the Zwin, which formed the prelude to the Hundred Years' War. In 1385 the construction of the Castle of Sluis was started, which during the French invasion in 1794 was heavily damaged and finally demolished in 1820.
From 1387 Sluis was the most important Burgundian fleet. On January 7, 1430, the marriage took place between Philip the Good and Isabella of Portugal. This reflected the importance of the city at that time. The flowering period of Sluis lasted until about 1450, after which a rapid decline occurred as a result of the silting up of the Zwin.
I hope you like it.

Hi John,
The length of the canal is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the trees and of the buildings. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hello John,
The neat composition and the perfect colours make this easily identified as one of your photos. Canals lined with trees and the typical Dutch gables of houses are other indicators. It's a very pleasant from from this nice little town and the weather was very suitable for a tour with the camera.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo John,

Hello John,
This look, and sounds, like an interesting place.
I had a quick look on the Internet to find that it is not only a interesting place to explore but also has shops open on a Sunday, very useful to tourists!
History has a lot to tell us and I find it fascinating that so many places have lost their economic importance because of the silting of their rivers!
You have selected a particularly attractive scene, anchoring the f/g with shady grasses and using the rippling details of the river to guide to the moorings and the buildings. There is a lovely balance of water, buildings and vegetation, equalled by a similar balance of light and shade.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

A scenic sight by the canal with some vivid colour to attract the eyes, full of vivid details and lovely interplay of light and shadows. Attention is drawn to the catchy backdrop. A shot easy on the eyes. Well done

Dag John,

Hi dear John
Another tatsy and calm image indeed. A little panfocus approach (I gusee so) makes tatsy output as such. So stuningly clear and shapnpresentation from front to end.
All the best and have a good day! Takero

Hi John,
Vibrant color and good sharpness and saturation with superb reflections in the canal. The bg sluice gates are just visible. I like the upside down Y shape of the converging canals. Tfs!

Hallo JKohn!
Here I have been many many years ago - and I still remember the beauty of this town, this region very well. You have chosen a very advantageous angle here - framing the canal and the town by the trees. Also the view from the shadow to the sunlit background is attractive here.
Greetings from dust-dry and hot Westphalia!
