Photographer's Note
The Afsluitdijk (English: Closure Dike) is a major causeway in the Netherlands, constructed between 1927 and 1933 and running from Den Oever in North Holland province, to the village of Zurich in Friesland province, over a length of 32 km (20 miles) and a width of 90 m, at an initial height of 7.25 m above sea-level.
It is a fundamental part of the larger Zuiderzee Works, damming off the Zuiderzee, a salt water inlet of the North Sea and turning it into the fresh water lake of the IJsselmeer (on the right side).
The last trench in the Afsluitdijk was closed on May 28, 1932. The dike itself however was not finished yet as it still needed to be brought up to its required height and a road linking Friesland and North Holland also remained to be built.
It would not be until September 25, 1933, that the Afsluitdijk was officially opened, with a monument (viewing tower) designed by architect Dudok marking the spot where the dike had been closed. The monument can be seen in this photo.

Dag Harko,
Een moooi perspectief op de afsluitdijk, met al die lijnen die naar de horizon wijzen, met een mooi contrast met de vertikale lijnen van de toren. Mooie natuurlijke kleuren.

Hi Harko,
very attractive strong perspective of the highway. You placed in the horizon line right in the frame and the tower breaks nicely that. Very good lighting and superb details. Well done!

Hallo Harko,
We krijgen zeer weinig foto's tezien van dit stukje Nederlands vakmanschap, de Afsluitdijk.
Ik meen dat er na de oorlog moest betaald worden om er over te rijden, wanneer men daar voor de eerste maal overrijdt is het een attractie.
Schitterend foto trowens, perfect perspectief.
Te weinig bezoeker en te weinig punten voor dit mooie werk. Bedankt.

It sounds like a tremendous engineering project; no wonder they are proud enough to privide a viewing tower. The road seems to go on to infinity. Well composed from a well chosen POV.

ciao Harko,
la tua foto mi riporta alla memoria il mio viaggio in Olanda di 20 anni fa...
Ricordo ancora la salita su questa torre della grande diga, il forte vento e un verdissimo campeggio a pochi km da lμ con il profumo dell'erba tagliata la mattina.
Splendido scatto, grazie per il ricordo.
