Photographer's Note
These locks in the river Amstel in Amsterdam were rather sophisticated in those days: the 18th century. There was a whole system of locks in the city with a scedule to open a few locks on one evening, next evening a few others, etc.. . That's how they cleaned the water those days by refreshing the water at night. Otherwise the smell in the city would be terrible, because all the canals were for transport as well as they were the sewers of the city.
On the background left the building of in The Netherlands very famous Carrι-theater, where a lot of musicals find a huge public.
