‘Sveti Naum Monastery’
Just about everyone staying in Ohrid takes a trip to the monastery of Sveti Naum.
Sveti Naum is located on the southeastern shore of the lake almost 30 kilometres from Ohrid town and near the border with Albania. The area where the monastery is, belonged to Albania for a short period from 1912 until June 28, 1925.
You can easily get there, both by bus and by boat.
Several peacocks live on the grounds of the monastery built on a rock above the lake.
The actual early 10th-century Church of the Holy Archangels built by Sveti Naum is in fact buried beneath the present 16th-century church, which stands in the middle of the monastery courtyards.
The church has been destroyed during Ottoman rule and its remains were rediscovered only in 1955 when excavations were carried out.
The present church was enlarged in the 17th and 18th centuries.

This time I don't have a personal preference for my main photo.
I hesitated between this one and the pictures in WS3 and WS4.

Hello Paul,
You probably made the right decision to use this as main photo, thanks to the arch framing the view of the church and courtyard. But as alternative main photos I would have voted for any of the first two WS because of their more original compositions. #1 is nicely cropped to make the peacock cover the entire view, and #2 gives us a good close view of the tower with its many fine brick patterns, with the peacock as a surprising element. The other two WS are more conventional postcard photos, if I may say so, with all due respect.

Hi Paul,
Grear series of photos as usually. I think I like more the closer views of the church in the workshop. More postcard like views.
Very attractive place to visit and I will certainly try to remember it when I get to visit this country someday. I thought you should upload some photos from Algarve since you have seen some other destinations, towns than me but I think Macedonia is probably more interesting because it is so rare on TE.

De poort en de oude muren vormen een prachtige omlijsting voor de goed onderhouden gebouwen en de toren van het klooster. Ze hebben aangename, warme kleuren, zeker in het zachte zonlicht.

Hi Paul,it's your first pic from this village close to Ohrid lake and it's very very interesting,there are more pics from there but not so interesting in this site. I enjoyed my daytrip to St Sveti monastery at Naum. You were lucky with the sunlight in the fg judging by the very cloudy sky. Good use of the arch to frame the scene. Tfs!

Hello, Paul, I was sure that after Ohrid you will show us to Sveti Naum Monastery. I went there by boat. I remember well the peacocks, I have also some photos of them, one was even white.
A good set of photos. The excellent main one with the view from under the arch. There was fantastic view of the lake from there.

Hello Paul,
I'm returning to North Macedonia once again for another critique. :-) I like all the old stones in this view; they are everywhere. The arch makes a good frame, and the monastery itself is attractive.
