‘Kratovo’s towers’
Kratovo is a small town with narrow and steep streets, several bridges and six medieval defensive towers.
Today's series is about those old towers.
Every photo shows one, sometimes maybe only a glimpse of it.
Some towers appear in more than one of my photos. I don't have a picture of all six.
The towers were built to create a defensive wall for the Turkish army. They were connected with tunnels and underground corridors.
These tunnels are not open to visitors. Nor have I been able to enter a tower. Sometimes, however, that turns out to be possible. I wasn’t lucky.
There is a cafe in town that provides access to an underground corridor. I was there but you could only walk about 50 meters through a damp tunnel carved into the rock. I have a very insignificant photo of that tunnel.
The most famous tower is the Saat or Clock tower. It’s located in the centre of Kratovo … and has no clock at all :)
Other towers are the Simiceva tower, the Emin-Bey, the Zlatkova, the Krsteva and the Hadzi-Kostova tower.
The main photo was taken late in the afternoon.

Hello Paul,
The main photo shows a nice view of the small but interesting town in the valley and along the hillside. The light is good and you had a lot of trees to use for the foreground. I wouldn't have hesitated to save the first two WS photos for separate uploads. Especially since my own retirement I enjoy watching other people work, and I always like street views with at least one or two persons. All WS photos are very well composed too.

Fabulous picture from a high place over town, Paul.
Some old towers and building shown within the more modern houses, built upon a slope, with excellent view to nthe far side mountains.
Good choice to have the closer slope tree on the lower part of the photo.

Het is te zien aan de foto's dat u reeds vele landen heeft aangedaan.
Voor mij lijkt dit wat spectaculair al de huizen op de helling van deze berg.
Wat moet dit zijn in de winter met sneeuw en strenge vorst.
Het is werkelijk een mooie foto als panorama.

Hi Paul,
This is a beautiful panoramic view of this unknown to me town. You have well framed it between some tree branches from the top and the shadowed corner at the bottom.
The light was lovely which resulted in a very pleasant effect.
The extra photos in the workshop show us again more. It is very kind of you because you prepare extra photos without taking credit for them.

De stad wordt mooi omgeven door groene tinten, zowel donkere in de voorgrond als lichtere op de hellingen in de verte. De voornamelijk oranje daken en witte huizen zien er mooi uit in dit heldere licht, net als de oude torens.

Hello Paul,
The towers blend in among the houses so nicely, that I didn't even notice them at first. I like all the orange and red roofs and the green hills. In the WS photo with the stone bridge, it looks like there's a "face" made out of windows. :-) Take care!

You certainly had a gorgeous light when you consider slightly desaturating the effect, because the colours seem too bright!
I do agree with you, that this is the best main post, showing the setting as well as the details of this pretty town.
I like how you have established the contrasts of shadows and sunlight, by including the trees in the bottom r/h corner and balanced them with a few branches in the opposing corner.
Your w/s add some close interesting details.

mooi zicht over dit stadje aan de voet van de bergen. De witte gevels met rode daken steken prettig af tegen het omringende groen en de oude stenen torens zijn opvallend aanwezig.

Hi Paul.
A magnificent composition with this beautiful photo where we see how the houses of the city are scattered along the side of the mountain, the red of their roofs is a nice contrast with the green of the mountain, very interesting the medieval towers that we see here as in the photos of the WS.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.

The main entry is a nice overview of the town, but my favorite photo is "One of the old stone bridges leading to the street with the Clock Tower."
