Photographer's Note
I have been listening to some golden oldies from former Jugoslavia on YouTube and felt a twinge of nostalgia for a time when people of different ethnicity mingled as in this image and for a time when regional costumes were still worn. So I found this image from my first trip back.
I have posted earlier images of women at the market, wearing their costumes; here one can see the ultra modern flares by the young (it wasthe 70s)on one hand and older men wearing the fez on the other. An odd thing to have seen the fez in Macedonia, when in Turkey it had been banned by Kemal Ataturk decades earlier. Anyway, no fezzes are seen anymore even in Struga and people do not mingle as much.

Hello Klaudio,
Rest assured that at least the cabbages still remain the same, but maybe not sold from carts like this. For the rest, it looks like a different world, and not just because some trends in fashion have changed, but because of the total upheaval and modernization that this part of Europe has gone through. It's a joy to see your excellently scanned b&w photos from long ago, and I hope there will be more to come.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Klaudio
Another of your "Days Gone By" series. The exposure is right on with a good range of B&W tones. Just people going about there daily lives before all of the useless fighting.

Ovo je izuzetan dokument Klaudio, and not only the life that was, but also the people that were.

Sve najbolje a najvise dobrog zdravlja, zeli vam Paja.

i like the old, photojournalistic appeal of the photo. the man wearing the fez and holding the cabbage- i guess this is the way he does his living and how he stands out alone and against the crowd seems to have a story to tell...
