Bitola - irok Sokak, pedestrian street
According to some sources Bitola is the second largest city in North Macedonia with a population of about 95.000.
According to other sources, Skopje (obviously) and Kumanovo have more inhabitants.
Bitola is clearly the largest city in the south of the country and its history stretches back just a little further than Skopjes past making it the oldest city in Macedonia.
The city has historic buildings including some from the Ottoman era and a very pleasant center.
irok Sokak is a long pedestrian street with restaurants, cafes, shops and hotels.
Another place where I have had delicious meals.
Here are three photos of irok Sokak.
With the exception of the two minarets you see at the end of the street, this photo has something Italian to me. Is this coming through the shutters on the windows? I dont know. Perhaps just a silly idea.
Presumably, Luciano and Silvio wont agree with this resemblance.

Hello Paul,
This looks like a nice city, better than any place I remember from Skopje. Maybe this is the only nice street...
As usual it is impossible to decide which is the best photo. They are all bright, clear, nicely composed and show us fine buildings and a pleasant atmosphere. You mention that you like WS #2 for the church tower seen along the two minarets, so I guess the colourful merchandise were placed in the foreground just by coincidence.
It's amusing to see the Turkish word 'sokak' still being used here. Usually it refers to a relatively narrow street, but Google translates irok as 'wide'. "The wide alley" sounds a bit funny.
Have a nice evening,
Gert

Hi Paul,
It is quite amazing to go for a trip which is not so far physically and yet so little known. At least to me. Yes the mood seems Mediterranean in the foreground something liek Italy maybe, however the minarets in the distance indicate it is probably not Italy, or at least not yet.
Nice series of photos, the light was pleasant, you have used it well with the facades pleasantly lit by the sunshine,
M

Goedenavond Paul,
Heel mooi foto werk mijn vriend. Bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaandeen,
John

Hello Paul,
This pedestrian's road looks mid-European style, excepth for the minarets. A fine view through, clea and distinct with vivid colors and contrast from shaded part up.
Good evening,

Hi Paul,I think I agree with you, the shutters and facades are very reminiscent of the Italian style, both Roman and Venetian, something that I found very present while visiting Dubrovnik and that I find again here thanks to your precious photos. I did not know this city and it is another nice surprise from your very special tour, thanks for the info and for the always excellent quality of the photos. Have a nice weekend! Luciano

Hello Paul,
Now we get some views of a more chic North Macedonia. :-) This street looks like others in modern Europe, and it's very attractive. I especially like all the shutters on the building on the right. Nice shots in the WS, too. Take care!

Bonsoir Paul,
La longueur de la rue piιtonne donne de la profondeur ΰ la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les dιtails des immeubles et de la terrasse. la qualitι de la lumiθre embellit les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journιe.

Hi Paul
From the look of the bar/cafι and pedestrianised street it looks like quite a cosmopolitan city. A good photo with lots of good detail.

Salut Paul,

Hello paul,
I think it must have been a tough decision to choose which photograph, between this and the one with the church tower, to use as your main one. Each has its own special atmosphere and features. I like the long perspective on this one but ... just prefer the cosier atmosphere on the other. It is always tough and people have their own particular preferences.
Anyway, all your photographs are sharp and well composed, giving a modern atmosphere to this old city.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi Paul.
Here you delight us with three sensational images of this new city for me, any one would have served as the main photo because they are all fantastic, I love the life and joy that this street transmits, which reminded me of Korzo street in Rijeka, which is a city with an Italian past.
In this wonderful image, the sharpness, exposure, colors and POV are fantastic.
Photo very well done. I like it
Enjoy a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
P.S. I think my previous photo was in the Ananuri area
