Photographer's Note
Shot from below the Bridge of sighs looking up the Grand Canal as Turners painting "Venice 46".
Tech: exposed as spot reading off of the grey of the clouds using my bespoke red/blue Lee's filter. Levels adjusted in PS + crop

This is an extreemely striking image despite lack of a motive proper. The reason is, I guess, the dramatic clouds enhanced by the strong contrsts; Very good job on exposition here - it really makes it a an interesting shot where the eye can wander around freely, doing lots of discoveries in the details. I think Turner would have been quite pleased!

Fantastic image; may be my favorite b&w image here. Tonality and detail in the city are terrific, and that sky...! Excellent work and a new 'favorite'.

very good; very impressive. I like this one more than your Venice 5; the clouds are more pertinent here. The best one is to my opinion Venice 1.

nice b& w picture... i like this shot!
i fell ''cold'' or "chilly" when i look at this picture ( weird, but this is how i feel it) and everything seems to move or give a special feeling in this picture. dynamism and beauty...
bravo!

Hi Rich!
This sky is much cooler than in your last, but there is something unrealistic about it's tones and contrasts when compared to the homes... I like the pic, but I find the PS work a little too obvious.

Incroyable rendu, j'aime beaucoup cette ambiance.
C'est tout simplement irrιaliste, trθs reussi

Everything (angle, B&W tones, sharpness) looks fantastic. I'm captivated by this image.

Again, I really like this. Your sense for dramatic, contrasting exposure is completely down my alley. I wish I had your tech knowledge, but then I'd still have to find such a scene!! I just wonder what this would look like with some of the sky cropped. It's a fantastic sky but I kind of feel like it dominates and looms over the scenery below which kind of distracts me from this which is also fantastic in itself. Very nice shot either way though

Dear Richard, this is a big time killer sky !!! Wonderful. It looks so excluded from Venice here. But it gives an amazing effect which gives en exeptional picture. Composition is great too. Yours, Jan

Wow - what a powerful shot - I love the grand scale of this - the placing of such a well known architectural landscape against such a powerful expanse of sky. really great!

The pic looks too sharpened and the contrast is just too much - a dramatic sky looks only so if it is really dramatic, just working on the contrast often takes too many shades from the other elements of the pic, maybe a yellow filter would have been better to use. To get the presumably desired effect: wait till the next thunderstorm with black clouds, have the low afternoon sun in your back: anything will look grand ;
