Photographer's Note

After the last image, full of sun, sea, beaches and hot temperatures, this morning i'm back on the planet Earth!
This morning in Milan it's snowing, and it will end not before than 48 hours.
I posted that shot 'cause we should go there next week-end, to have some ski and to have some good air for Federico, our baby.
The air pollution in all Milan Metro Area is terrifiant, as every winter.

7,5 Millions of people live in the Milan Metro Area (60 km in each direction from the city centre). Everyday more than 1 Millions came inside the Milan borders for work or study or shopping.
Everyday more than 2 Millions of cars go around the city and other 2 Millions go around in the Metro Area.
Milan is in the middle of the North Italian Plain, but sourrounded and closed-in by Alps and Appennini for more than the 70%.
That ring of mountains stopped the winds, the ones from the sea, and the ones from the North and East Europe.
The Smog rests here.
The U.E. reconnaised that few weeks ago, and gave special laws against Smog to the President of Lombardia Region.

All that don't change the situation...and every Friday all around the year, an half part of Milan people escapes to the mountains or the lakes district or the Ligurian Sea.
For these reason there are more than 2 Millions of 2th houses of Milanesi just outside the Metro Area!

In the last years many people decided to lives in that 2th houses (normally at 100-150 km from the city) all the year, to haven't Smog, traffic, urban violence and others, and become Commuters...
Every morning the most part of that people takes the car and come in Milano using the completely crowded streets of North Italy.
1 hour and half, 2 hours, sometimes also 2 hours and half...to come in Milan and same thing to come back home.

....and the pollution goes up. not only in Milan, but also close to the 2th houses....

As many others, i took that image from the terrace of my house on the Alps, during the Autumn 2004.
It was one of these raining days with cold temperature and low clouds...
nothing to do, only read a book sitted in front of the fire, with some good music and a bottle of a good Piedmont red-wine.
