Photographer's Note
Tagliata of the Rocchette
It is located along a downhill path inside a via cava, about 70 meters long and 3 meters wide, where in some places the height of the wall is close to 20 meters.
It is made by digging a huge mass of peperino that detached in remote times from the cliff that runs along the valley between Bomarzo and Chia.
Almost at the end of the via cava there is a large boulder fallen from above; past the obstacle and looking up to the left, on the upper edge of the wall, you can read the inscription ITER PRIVATVM DVORVM DOMITIORVM (CIL XI 3042), that is, "Private road of the two Domizi".

Hello Silvio,
It is not easy to understand what this has been, but just knowing that people spent a lot of efforts very long ago to create this is fascinating. To me it's one of the mysteries of the ancient world. Apart from that I like the contrasts of grey and green.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Silvio,
Les arbres donne une touche de nature ΰ la scθne. La prise de vue permet de voir les dιtails de la coupe de la Rocchette. La lumiθre donne de belles teintes aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne journιe.

Hello Silvio, it is difficult to imagine life many hundreds of years ago, and how these features were created by men, and the tools that they must have used!
The shapes of the rocks have obviously been made by men, and you got a good angle to illustrate that fact.
A good sharp shot with interesting notes.
Kind regards, Jean.

Ciao Silvio, preferisco una bella tagliata di manzo ma anche questa va bene, tanto ho gia' cenato. Qui si vede molto di cio' che θ rimasto, peccato per l'incuria e addirittura l'arbusto in mezzo al passaggio. Buona Domenica,Lucaiano

Hello Silvio,
This was probably achieved in ancient times with slave labour.
Yet it is awe-inspiring.
The tree at the far end gives us a good idea of the size of the rock mass.
Best regards, Paul

Men-made old excavation with large dimentions as stated in your note, Silvio.
Still wonder what was the purpose of this? did not understand from the note.
Arrivederci,

Ciao Silvio,
Looking at the title I thought you will talk about past "tagliatelle".

Hi Silvio
You have captured a documentary shot of the ruined with loads of ancient stonework detail and obvious sense of scale. Great finding, well presented.
Best regards

Ciao Silvio
It seems this private road is now blocked by a large tree, which would provide welcome shade in summer. Good sharpness, texture and perspective. Tfs!
