Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso - Azzano di Spoleto (PG)
The church of Santa Maria, or Madonna del Soccorso, was built between the 11th and 12th centuries in the Spoleto district of Azzano.
Initially it was dedicated to the child martyr San Quirico, once very venerated in the place, with this title it is mentioned in the fourteenth-century Codex Pelosius.
The faηade and the interior were modified in the 17th century, with the extension and addition of a body on the right, presumably used as a rectory.
On this occasion, the church probably assumed its current title.
In 1619 the chaplaincy of the Madonna di Loreto was founded and in 1639 the chaplaincy of Carmine was erected there.

The snowcapped mountains provide a magnificent backdrop. Good sharpness and natural looking colour. The old fg church adds a strong focal point. Tfs!

Hello Silvio,
A humble church but the background is impressive.
Beautiful with the difference between the well lit forested hills and those in the shade.
The poplars lead us nicely from the foreground to the snow peaks.
