Photographer's Note

Pompei, 79 AD. The ash expelled from the volcano surrounded the people of Pompei in minutes. Their bodies were preserved underground for centuries. As Pompeii was excavated in the 20th century, the cavities left by the remains of the victims were filled with plaster, resulting in these molds. Their horrific, detailed expressions are echoes of the fatal moment 2000 years ago.

This was another improvised long-exposure. I leaned against the glass case to steady myself.
